Finally Home!!!
Last night we returned from our wonderful trip to the Black Hills. We visited so many fun places, met up with great people, and the kids had such a great time.
Here are some highlights of our trip.
Day 1: The trip out west
It was a VERY long trip out there, but we made some fun stops and thankfully Grandma Ruth made these really nice iPad holders for the kids. I loaded them up with lots of Mickey Mouse cartoons and Good Luck Charlie episodes along with a few movies. The kids did great with them. Even Charlie watched TV and he is not much of a TV watcher.

Jesse insisted Olivia get her picture by the sign for the town of Olivia. We didn't go through the town, but we did see the sign. So we quickly pulled over and Olivia was so excited to read the sign and get her picture taken by it.
Charlie's job was to point out all of the tractors and semis on the road, especially the John Deere tractors.
After 11 long hours, we finally made it to Rapid City :)
Day 2
The first day we were in the hills we visited a lot places. Our first stop, one of my favorites places to visit when I am out there, was the Chapel in the Hills. This Chapel was built in 1969 and is a replica of a chapel in Norway. It is a beautiful building. We toured the chapel, took a prayer walk, looked in the gift shop, and the kids favorite part of this stop was the little house that replicated one from many years ago in Norway.
The next stop was Storybook Island...another favorite of mine and I think a new favorite of the kids!
From there we had one tired little guy, so we decided to do some driving tours. We drove past Pactola Lake and then on to Needles Highway, Custer State Park and Mount Rushmore. This was the first time Jesse had been through Needles Highway. He was very impressed.
After all of that "sight-seeing" we headed back to our hotel for a shower and change of clothes and met up with my aunt, uncle and cousin for dinner. The kids were a little cranky, but it was great seeing them.

After Storybook Island we headed to dinosaur park. Charlie really liked the big dinosaurs, Jesse and I loved the view of the hills and if you asked Olivia about the dinosaur park, all she would tell you is that she fell and skinned her knee and she didn't like it there. The cool thing about the dinosaur park is that these dinosaurs were built in the 30's during the depression. It was a government project to create jobs for people. Charlie insisted on standing by every one :)
